Anatomia interna de una tortuga: reptil que tiene cubierta con forma oval y pico córneo. Este reptil tiene también una cola muy corta, cuarto patas cortas y se mueve muy lentamente.
Tráquea: conducto que va de la laringe a los bronquios de la tortuga.
Pulmón: órgano respiratorio de la tortuga.
Estómago: órgano del tubo digestivo de la tortuga situado entre el esófago y el intestino.
Páncreas: glándula de la tortuga que hace enzimas digestivas.
Recto: última parte del tubo digestivo de la tortuga.
Ano: orificio del conducto digestivo de la tortuga por el cual se expele los excrementos.
Vejiga: depósito en forma de bolsa en la que recoge y almacena la orina que secretan los riñones.
Ovario: glándula reproductora que hace óvulos.
Intestino: parte del tubo digestivo de la tortuga situado a continuación del estómago.
Hígado: glándula digestiva que hace bilis.
Corazón: órgano de la circulación sanguínea de la tortuga.
Esófago: parte del tubo digestivo de la tortuga situado entre la boca y el estómago.

Turtles are reptiles of the Order Testudines (all living turtles belong to the crown group Chelonia), most of whose body is shielded by a special bony or cartilaginous shell developed from their ribs. The Order Testudines includes both extant (living) and extinct species. The earliest known turtles date from 215 million years ago, making turtles one of the oldest reptile groups and a more ancient group than lizards and snakes. About 300 species are alive today, and some are highly endangered. Turtles cannot breathe in water, but they can hold their breath for various periods of time. Like other reptiles, turtles are poikilothermic or "of varying temperature". Like other amniotes (reptiles, dinosaurs, birds, and mammals), they breathe air and do not lay eggs underwater, although many species live in or around water. The largest turtles are aquatic.
